Where is Kentucky in USA

Kentucky is in the east south-central region of the United States. Kentucky borders seven states, from the Midwest and the Southeast. West Virginia lies to the east, Virginia to the southeast, Tennessee to the south, Missouri to the west, Illinois and Indiana to the northwest, and Ohio to the north and northeast.

Kentucky is a good choice

Known as the ‘Bluegrass State’ due to its grass which at its peak height blooms blue flowers. Kentucky is a jewel nestled in the south-eastern interior of the USA. Alongside these there are also a multitude of vineyards scattered across the state, with Kentucky being home to the first commercial vineyard in the USA. With all this brewing taking place, it is safe to say that Kentucky has an exciting nightlife. Its larger cities, Louisville, Lexington and the state’s capital, Frankfort, are buzzing with night time attractions. The Urban Bourbon Trail in Louisville takes you along a trail of bars throughout the city where you’ll come across over 50 different types of bourbon.

If you’re after a break from the buzzing night scene you don’t have to venture far to be in Kentucky’s pristine natural wonderland. Towards the centre of the state lies Mammoth Cave National Park. The park houses parts of the world’s longest known cave system – Mammoth Cave. The park is free to explore, with guided tours available and activities such as bike riding, horseback riding and camping popular amongst locals and tourists alike. Horse parks, zoos and other state parks are sure to satisfy visiting families and help get kids enjoying the great outdoors once again.

More than just the home of the original Kentucky Fried Chicken, the state of Kentucky is brimming with quaint cafés, cosmopolitan bistros and proud southern dishes jam packed with flavour. Hearty, wholesome food is one way that Kentucky welcomes its visitors, warming them to the core and tantalising them to stay longer.

The things you should not miss in Kentucky are: The Kentucky Derby Museum located in Louisville, at Churchill Downs, and is home to artefacts detailing the Thoroughbred industry, as well race history. While visiting, you have access to a 30-minute guided tour of Churchill Downs itself. For the whiskey lover, Kentucky is the American equivalent of Scotland. With some of the biggest purveyors of the beverage coming from Kentucky, you would owe it to yourself to at least stop in and compare it to the British standard. You have your choice between Makers Mark, Jim Beam and Wild Turkey, to name a few of the larger hitters. Their distilleries are open to the public for tours, and so are their shops. For the car lover, visit the Bowling Green General Motors Assembly plant for the one hour guided tour. After that, take a trip up the street to the National Corvette Museum with extensive memorabilia of the famed car. If still in Bowling Green, you might want to visit the Mammoth Cave National Park, which is home to the world’s largest known cave system. For the war buff, there is the Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor located on the famed Fort Knox army base. Here you will find various artefacts from the Second World War.
