Located on the easternmost tip of the Yucatan peninsula, beautiful Cancun offers glorious beaches, world-class resorts, and ancient wonders to enjoy. It is a recent city, started in 1974, and was designed specifically to be a tourism project.
Let’s talk about the resort options first. There is an integrated tourism zone within the city that gives you plenty of access to beaches and activities. Part of the zone includes the second-longest coral reef in the world, making it the perfect destination for diving or snorkeling.
Then make your way to the El Meco archeological site. You’ll be able to see several important ruins from the Maya civilization, including the Temple of the Scorpion and the stunning El Castillo. Smaller vestiges of the culture can even be found within the hotel zone of Cancun, if you prefer to stay closer to the resort.
You’ll have an opportunity to engage your retail therapy options with a visit to the La Isla Shopping Village. Several small boutiques offer their own hidden gems to find throughout the shopping zones of the city. If you love to explore, be sure to take in the Town Hall and the Town Square, both with a modernist style that offer a taste of Colonial influence.
