City A - Z
Found on the Yucatan Peninsula with a coastline that invites you to explore the Caribbean, Tulum is a resort community that was initially one of the last cities to be built and then inhabited by the Mayan people. It’s defensive position and walled structure allowed it to survive for nearly a century as the Spanish began to conquer the area.
Even then, it has managed to survive the centuries to be one of the best-preserved coastal cities from the Mayan culture.
The Tulum ruins are extensive. They include a castle, a temple that guards the entrance to the local bay, and the Temple of the Frescos and the entire site looks out toward the Caribbean. Reserve a day or two to fully explore this site as you enjoy the resort atmosphere.
Because the archeological area of Tulum is relatively compact, you’ve got several areas of shoreline to enjoy while taking advantage of the relaxation amenities that are offered. Several cenotes and cave systems are available to explore as well, with cave diving a potential opportunity for those who are experienced in the sport.
Some of the beaches at Tulum are protected to give space to nesting sea turtles in the area.
You can divide your stay in Tulum into 4 different experiences. You can stay in the hotel zone, enjoy the town, explore the archeological site, and then explore Sian Ka’an, the local biosphere reserve that is a listed world heritage site. There is something here for everyone, so make it your next holiday destination.
