Travel to Somalia

The Federal Republic of Somalia is located on the Horn of Africa and offers the longest coastline on the continent. Numerous highlands, plains, and plateaus can be found throughout the region. In past generations, the country’s location made it an important commercial center thanks to its access to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.

Unfortunately, the natural beauty of Somalia has been marred by perpetual political instability since 1991. Any visit to the nation should feature warzone safety measures.

The most ideal destination Somalia offers is Mogadishu Beach. Before the conflict, the gentle waves and white sands were a place that families would gather on the weekends. Religious customs must be followed, including women swimming fully clothed, but the beach itself is quite beautiful.

A visit to the Zeila Coast should also be on the itinerary during a stay in Somalia. Giant monoliths stand guard in the raging waters, providing spires of green that call out an invitation to stay on the breeze.

The Citadel of Gondershe is a fascinating place to visit as well. Gondershe, or El Torre, has several historical structures to explore. Built on an oasis, some of the ancient town walls still exist.

Different regions in Somalia offer a mixture of culinary and musical influences. Expect several varieties of rice, nutmeg, and peanuts in many dishes. Incense is often burned in homes before a meal and sometimes after.

Somalia is a challenging destination and will likely be for some time. That doesn’t change the fact that it is a place with exciting destinations that one day could be explored.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]
